Dr. Jerge
Dr. R. D. Jerge, an experienced veterinarian with a career spanning over four decades, dedicated to advancing animal health and veterinary practice, is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He has built a portfolio of clinical, managerial, and mentorship roles.
He is licensed in California and was formerly licensed in Maryland, Texas, and Ohio. Dr. Jerge was a hospital owner and solo practitioner at Wicomico Veterinary Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland for 27 years where he provided accessible around-the-clock care, specializing in canine and feline medicine, surgery, dentistry, and radiology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Jerge has held various pivotal roles. He has served as a Chief Veterinarian and mentor at Banfield, The Pet Hospital at both the Roseville and Citrus Heights locations, guiding fellow veterinarians and upholding high standards of care. More recently, he is a per diem associate veterinarian at Critter Creek Veterinary Hospital.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Jerge also was commissioned in the US Navy submarine service and participated in the USS Trutta (SS421) recognition with the prestigious “Navy E” award for operational excellence. His leadership and mentorship extended into academia as well having served as Resident Advisor during his undergraduate years at Ohio State and as his Veterinary Class/Faculty Liaison Officer.
Dr Jerge is currently a member of the AVMA. His career reflects a balance of clinical expertise, business acumen, and a passion for mentoring the next generation of veterinary professionals.
